DAWN OF CORRECTION - SWINGIN THE CHAIN
(5 track CD) Self Released
DAWN OF CORRECTION hail from my area of Philadelphia, Pa. & play a big mixture of Metal styles. They don't like to be thrown into one Metal style, so they have pulled from their influences & combined them into one sound. You can hear a lot of old school Thrash metal influences the most, but they do toss in Speed, Death, Nu-Metal, Traditional & even some Hardcore type influences. They have a good rythm & groove happening all through out the CD. The vocals also follow in this style by adding Thrash, Death & Traditional Metal vocal styles. I really dug these guys a lot & they reminded me of another Philly band called ORCUS!!!
Black Angel Promotions:
There's something different about Dawn of Correction. There's something intriguing about how the Pennsylvania based hard rock/metal outfit bring so many different influences to the table and extract some of the most exciting and interesting attributes out of it to create their own variation of metal. With influences ranging from Slayer, Savatage and Black Sabbath to Megadeth and Anthrax, you can see that DOC takes their metal very seriously which can by heard in the band's new album Swingin' The Chain.
Now, the album is only 5 songs in length and times in at about 21 minutes, but it's incredibly interesting and entertaining. Like I mentioned, there's so many different influences that it's practically impossible to get bored or lose interest. Throwing you into the tornado is "Damage is Done". Personally, this is my favorite track from the album and it's a fast paced metal track that makes you feel like you're being tied up with rusty chains and being buried alive. At first Jeremy Tillotson's growling leads you to believe that the band is just one of those bands that growls and howls through everything but that's not the case at all. I am fixated on how well Jeremy's vocals work with the music. I think he's just one of those guys who would sound great as long as he was fronting a metal band. Anyway, I digress. Another song that grabbed my attention was the self titled "Swingin' The Chain". The music builds up a little different than in the previous tracks and releases its rage in little spurts. Lyrically, this is also the strongest and most emotional. Whomever the song is about, the rage runs miles deep in a river of blood as "So glad he's dead!" is being yelled continuously at the end of the song.
If you're looking for a single metal band that will expose you to numerous aspects and sounds of the metal genre, look no further than Dawn of Correction. If I was to put money on it, I'd be willing to bet you that these guys will be making a huge name for themselves. Be on the lookout.
Grammie from the Autopsy Report Heavy Metal Radio said, “Guys, the CD is absolutely excellent!!!”
Metal Mark from Audio Aggression Radio, “I like the mixture of influences you guys bring to the table and it has a refreshing musical sense to it. Pretty much a hybrid mix of different metal influences. The CD is killer!
Andrew D. Mills, Dark Cloud Radio, “"Heavy metal with an old school groove? D.O.C. has managed to unleash just that with this EP! With songs like "Run With The Hunt" ripping my face off. I've come to realize that wheel doesn't need reinventing. We just need to consume everything that we love about heavy metal." My personal favorite is "As I Live And Breathe". I love the music! Usually when I listen to unsigned bands, I think it would sound much better if they had a producer. That's not the case with D.O.C. Keep up the good work.”

"one of the craziest sounding bands in metal I've heard in quite a long time"
Dawn Of Correction out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania pulls no punches in its full throttle, all-out old school metal approach, unleashing its steady, moshing delivery like a wicked barroom fight on each of the five tracks from their debut EP "Swinging The Chain." With the gravel-voiced Jeremy Tillotson (aka JT Fux) on vocals, Mike Radcliff (recently replaced by James Beam) on lead guitar, ECH on bass and Eddie DeHorsey on drums (also newly replaced by Rich Tornetta), Dawn Of Correction immediately starts the party off with a bang on the opening track "Damage Is Done" - a pure shit-kicker if I have ever heard one. It's nothing too fancy - just straight ahead bust your back in the pit formula. Tillotson seems to be more of a character than even David Lee Roth at points on this song, taking the "I've lost my mind on the microphone" stance to the next level entirely. He may not have Roth's singing range, but there is something to say about a Rock N Roller who understands that fact but still kicks you in the nuts anyways.
The second track is "Run With The Hunt" and starts out very interestingly on the drums, a drug-dazed pattern that feels like the band is taking you directly to the insane asylum with them. They even flash glimpses of death metal pride mixed with a Southern metal twist, yet the guitar solo is very progressive and capable. Tillotson's vocals on the chorus line "Run With The Hunt" are certainly over the top and hauntingly creepy, but that's a big part of this band's overall appeal. They don't care that they aren't fully polished in every aspect of their incredibly unique brand of heavy music.
"Unlock The Fury" shows that they indeed have the ability to even sound a bit like Anselmo's DOWN band, flashing signs that they can bring a solid melody line with the best of them. Track number four is 'As I Live And Breathe...' and the band sounds a lot like Corrosion Of Conformity here, breaking out from a slow but heavy groove into a blastbeat that would put a smile on any extreme metalers face. The final song is the title track 'Swingin' The Chain' and totally embodies what this band is all about, coming off more like a horror movie gone wrong than anything else with its brutal chugging riff and zombie scream chorus. I honestly don't think this is one of the more technical extreme bands ever assembled, but I think that Dawn Of Correction is one of the craziest sounding bands in metal I've heard in quite a long time.
Highs: The opener "Damage Is Done" gets the blood pumping.
Lows: I wish there were a couple more tracks, being that the fun here is a bit short lasted.
Bottom line: This is one ass kicking, in your face metal band.

Dawn of Correction- "Swingin the Chain" |
What can be said about Dawn of Correction that isn’t apparent already. D.O.C. has a sound that is so different that it can be put into several categories- its heavy, its fast and they just plain rock!
The songs have a very heavy demanding sound to them with lyrics that catch your attention and keep your attention without any persuading. The songs give to the album and combine the lyrics with the musical talent; it becomes exactly the album that could be passed on from generation to generation-from the early thrashers to the thrashers of today along with the heavy metal head bangers. Swingin the chain is an album of five songs that are sure to waken the sense and bring metal as we know it to a whole new level.
